AQuaChar manages your waste and environmental compliance, leaving you free to scale your business with confidence.

AQuaChar converts aquaculture sludge into stable biochar through hydrothermal carbonisation and pyrolysis — giving the aquaculture industry a sustainable route for a waste stream, while sequestering carbon for the long term.

02 — About

A joint venture built on two specialisms

AQuaChar bridges the gap between sludge collection and subsequent processing by bringing expertise in both under one roof.

Aquaculture generates massive volumes of organic sludge. Today, the responsibility for managing this waste is heavily scrutinised by operators and regulators alike, frequently dictating a company's licensing and growth potential. The first step, maximising collection, creates a subsequent challenge: the need for responsible, expert disposal. AQuaChar solves this by collecting and treating sludge, converting it into stable biochar with minimal external energy. By locking away carbon that would otherwise be released, we transform an environmental liability into a valuable resource. The result is a single, integrated process that delivers both a practical waste-management solution and a sustainable carbon-removal outcome.

03 — Process

From sludge to sequestered carbon

Four stages, drawing on both parent companies' expertise, ending with carbon locked away in a stable form.

01

Sludge collection

Optimised collection of organic sludge at source from aquaculture operators. Consistency regulated for subsequent processing.

02

Logistics

Recovered sludge collected and transported to AQuaChar facility.

03

Specialised Facility

Facility designed for hydrothermal carbonisation, extraction of salts and metals, preservation of beneficial nutrient content, pyrolysis.

04

Carbon sequestration

Processed material converted into stable biochar for long term carbon storage.

04 — Team

Management, backed by two specialist teams

AQuaChar draws on the experience of the teams within its owners, RenAQ and Onunda, alongside its own management.

Backed by our shareholders, open to what's next

AQuaChar is funded by its shareholders, RenAQ and Onunda, who each bring both capital and operational expertise to the venture.

As we commercialise, there will be an opportunity for sustainability-focussed investors to join us on the journey. If that's of interest, we'd welcome the conversation.
